Campaign website for Thailand against IUU Fishing

The Government of Thailand required a new logo and a campaign website to showcase their efforts in fighting illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The main driver to fish illegally is economic benefit. Fishing vessels that operate illegally are able to maximise profits by reducing operating costs and disregarding legal requirements. This, in turn, leads to overexploitation of fish stocks.

The campaign’s website would be used to broadcast news about Thailand’s efforts while offering a comprehensive overview of their legal enforcement activities. It should also offer insight into the human story of the liberated slaves.

We started by creating a logo and choosing typography that could set the tone for the rest of the materials. Because there was a significant body of reportage photography we took an editorial approach to the design. Placing focus on slave testimonials, featuring interviews and individual portraits, helped to humanize the message, making it that much more powerful. The interface worked seamlessly in computers and mobile devices and was powered by a custom WordPress content management system. The project was online for 3 years.
