Global Cork is a Portuguese startup seeking to promote and sell cork-based products with a focus on design. The founding partner approached us to design the company’s brand and it’s website.
The focus was to be on exclusivity and uniqueness. The site would promote artists on the cutting edge of cork application in product design, architecture and furniture (and their products), so the visuals should follow suit.
No code was developed as this was to be a proof of concept for investors. We did however design the whole website, web shop included, so it could be presented as a prototype on the investment pitch.
We came up with a clean interface that would let the pieces shine through. It was important that the site would feel more like a gallery than a conventional e-commerce shop so prices where given a secondary role, being displayed on hover actions or product detail pages.
- Be involved. The whole team took an interest on this project and as a result lots of good ideas arose that were proposed to the client and incorporated into the final design. These were as much about design as about content and overall strategy;
- Be generous. Logo design wasn’t in the client brief, but because we felt the logo was lacking in terms of where the brand wanted to be, we took a leap of faith and designed a new one anyway. It was approved and used throughout.
